Police investigating a series of burglaries at a community's churches say they have arrested three teenagers.

Churches targeted in Kenfig Hill, near Bridgend, include Pisgah Baptist Church, Mount Zion Chapel, St David's Church and St Theodore's Church.

Officers are also investigating a burglary at Kenfig Hill Scout Hall, as well as damage to St John's Church.

Two 14-year-old boys, from North Cornelly and Maesteg, and a 15-year-old boy from Pyle have been arrested.

Neighbourhood police constable Gerard McKay said: "The prompt arrests made after these crimes were committed will reassure members of the public that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour.

"Many people will be attending their local churches to celebrate Christmas and will be very distressed by the actions of those responsible.

"Members of Porthcawl NPT (Neighbourhood Policing Team) will continue to help keep the area safe for everyone to enjoy a very merry Christmas."

Items stolen during the raids included a hi-fi, candles and a chalice.

Police said the burglary at Pisgah chapel happened on 16 December while the damage to St John's took place on 19-20 December.

The three teenagers arrested on suspicion of burglary have been released on police bail.
